My buddy from Kentucky gave me this recipe! I’ve already made it four times this month!

Inspired by the rich, buttery goodness of classic Kentucky  Butter Cake, these melt-in-your-mouth  cookies are the perfect blend of tender crumb and sweet glaze. A Southern favorite, they’re ideal for sharing at gatherings or enjoying with your morning coffee.

Ingredients

For the  Cookies:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • ¼ cup buttermilk

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • ½ tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp salt

For the Butter Glaze:

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

    1. Preheat & Prep – Heat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    2. Cream Butter & Sugar – In a large bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

    3. Add Wet Ingredients – Mix in eggs one at a time, then stir in buttermilk and vanilla.

    4. Combine Dry Ingredients – In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.

    5. Bake – Drop dough by tablespoonfuls onto the baking sheet, spacing 2 inches apart. Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are lightly golden.

    6. Make Glaze – While cookies bake, whisk melted butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and water until smooth.

    7. Glaze Warm Cookies – Brush glaze over cookies as soon as they come out of the oven. Let cool on a wire rack before serving.

Serving Suggestions

    • Enjoy with coffee, tea, or a cold glass of milk.

    • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for an extra-decadent treat.

    • Perfect for holiday cookie swaps or as a homemade gift.

Variations & Tips

    • Spiced Version: Add ½ tsp cinnamon or nutmeg to the dough.

    • Nutty Crunch: Fold in ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts.

    • Chocolate Drizzle: Dip cooled cookies in melted chocolate for extra indulgence.

These cookies stay soft for days—if they last that long! 😊
